Worship God through this video of Yosemite and Psalm 19 #VIDEO

Yosemite HD from Project Yosemite on Vimeo.

The above video caused me to reflect on Psalm 19 and worship God – my hope is that it would do the same for you.

[19:1] The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
[2] Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
[3] There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
[4] Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
[5] which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
[6] Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
[7] The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple;
[8] the precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
[9] the fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the LORD are true,
and righteous altogether.
[10] More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
[11] Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
[12] Who can discern his errors?
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
[13] Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
and innocent of great transgression.
[14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

(Psalm 19 ESV)

Tim Hughes’ live worship in London CD is good enough for you to buy

I picked up this CD really for one song along: “When I Survey.” Tim takes an old-time hymn and he re-makes the musical pattern and rhythm. I think he improves it greatly, or at least brings out the words for me. That being said, I would reccomend this CD to you with confidence. I’m a sucker for live worship sets for some reason – but this one has been a great one to have on this afternoon. Thanks to Ben Moore for introducing this song to us a First Woodway.

Sunday Morning Reflections / 8.30.09

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Today was quite a CRAZY day at First Woodway. The craziness really began Friday when we had our Leadership Retreat – it was simply the best one yet… no seriously – it was AWESOME – except for having to sleep on the floor at the church/eating too late/entering into the whole weekend tired/and still trying to recover on sleep.

We spent Friday night worshiping & praying together. UNbelievable time (IMO). Saturday was filled with details/planning & recovery. It was a sweet time.

Below are some of my reflections on this morning at College Hour:

-We wouldn’t be where we’re at w/o our Leadership doing what God has called them to do… LEAD.
-Ummm… When you say “FREE lunch” students come out in droves… who wouldn’t want that?
-Greg Foster & Band have done an amazing job leading us in worship through song every Sunday thus far – they need a CD or something so I can take it w/ me throughout the week.
-Having a band on Sunday mornings totally enhances what we’re doing & where we’re going to go this year in our ministry.
-We had to BRING in almost 100 additional chairs into the room – these were extra chairs due to the amount of people in College Hour.
-My wife is AMAZING. I absolutely LOVE her & her servant spirit… Sundays would not be the same w/o her.
-Just b/c you’re in a small group doesn’t mean you’re growing – it just means you’re in the best position to grow.
-Having adults serve in our ministry is so cool!
-I love that students want to stay & help clean up after a lunch… proves their servanthood.
-We want to pray expectant prayers.
-Small Groups are about your sanctification.
-You cannot do life alone.
-Understanding progressive sanctification is becoming more & more important for college students than ever.
-Could we please bring back Arrested Development?!
-Our volunteers ROCKED it… AGAIN.
-I was almost in tears laughing at the small group leaders “special talents”
-I was crying during worship as 300+ students sang w/ everything they had to Jesus… defining moment for sure.
-BTW – this is the LARGEST amount of people in College Hour at First Woodway… in 8 yrs. BLOW YOUR SOCKS AWESOME.
-I think I quoted more movies today than I have ever. Ha!
-Large cannons are cool; & so is He-Man.
-Critical Mass is the beginning of a movement.
-Any time you have the FULL support of your Senior Pastor, the table will be set for success.
-At some point you have to grow up… & today our ministry gre up.

I’m so looking forward to this next week. Brett Gibson will be speaking & I’m totally pumped that he gets to share his vision for missons this upcoming year.

enjoy.

Open Email to our College Leadership

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Monday, August 17th, 2009

Below is an email I sent to my leadership.  I wrote the email late the other night but sent it to them just last week… enjoy:

I’m sitting in my house and it’s late. I won’t tell you how late, I’ll leave that up to your own imagination… but I should be asleep.

I can’t sleep.

My thoughts keep running over and over of what this next year might mean… of what this next year might look like in our college ministry… of what this next year might look like for you… of what this next year might look like for me, for Abigail (& even ole’ Ebenezer)… of what this next year might look like for Baylor… of what this next year might look like for Waco & our world. And thus:

I cannot sleep.

What would happen if our friends who we thought knew Jesus might for the first time come to grips with the reality that they actually don’t know him and then place their faith in him?

What would happen if we saw people begin to confess things they’ve kept hidden all their lives?

What would happen if we cared enough about our friends; roommate; classmates; professors; frat-mates; sorority sisters; boyfriends/ girlfriends; parents; & siblings that we shared w/ them that which matters most in life… Jesus.  And not just because we felt obligated to do it; not because we felt forced to do it; not because we felt like we had to BUT because Jesus matters that much to us.

What would happen if we couldn’t sleep because so many great and awesome things were happening in our ministry and amongst us as a leadership?

Would that not be awesome?

Will you join me in praying for that to happen?

I think the Lord has some crazy awesome things in store for us this next year and I’m totally stoked (yeah, I said stoked) to see how the Lord is going to play these things out among us.

Now remember; we start at 10:15am on August 23rd.

Drag. Pull. Plead with. Drive. Con. Do whatever it takes to get your friends to church when the new semester begins.

If you don’t invite your lost friends to church how will they ever hear about Jesus?
Will they hear about Jesus from you?
If you bring your friends to our church, they will hear about Jesus… I promise you that.

I want to pack out the college hour room.
I want us to have to create new small groups on the first Sunday.
I want us to have too many people desire to serve internationally & locally on some type of mission endeavor this next year.
I want us to have to plan a baptism service the first Sunday this semester because so many of your friends come to faith.
I want us to have a space problem.
I want us to dream and dream big of what God might do in and through us.
I want us to worship like crazy on that Sunday.
I want us to be willing to look foolish for Jesus’ sake on that Sunday & all of them to come…
may we not hold back together… may we not hold back.

I want to be amazed… do you?

Whew!  As you can see, I’m totally stoked that you’re a little over a week away from being here in Waco again. I’ve missed you. Our church has missed you.
Please come soon.

love&live the gospel,

criner

Tuesday Night Reflections

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Tonight was a sweet night of worship at Camp Remedy here in New Mexico. Below are some of my reflections from the night:

•asking people to repent requires you to be repentant
•repenting publically is the being a good shepherd.
•no matter what we plan, God’s plan will prevail.
•no matter how weak we find ourselves to be, he is still stronger.
•he is risen & there is great cause or us to rejoice.
•music can only take us so far for your word being proclaimed changes lives for eternity.
•yelling & shouting & weeping with conviction is good… when the weight behind it is Jesus & his love.
•being led by the Holy Spirit is the best game plan you can have.
•seeing kids broken | confessing | repenting | worshiping | & coming to know Jesus for the first time stirs my affections for the Lord.
