If I have an iPhone, why buy an iPad?

I was asked this question in regards to the iPad and its use in comparison to the iPhone:

hey criner, im thinking about getting an iPad…i have an iPhone, so do i really need an iPad?

Honestly, there are a lot of people thinking about ditching their iPhones in preference for the iPad…. I’ve actually contemplated it. But while the iPhone and iPad do similar things, they really serve two different purposes. One is a phone; one is device designed for productivity on the go. This is also true despite the fact that they run the same operating system.

As I said in this blog post, if you don’t have laptop, the iPad is a beautiful machine. I’ve used it to type several papers, blog posts, taken notes for meetings, then able to watch a movie. I couldn’t do those things on an iPhone… nor would I want to. The point is that it’s proving over and over how it is a great tool, and one I find using throughout the day.

This being said, if you already have a laptop, then you don’t “need” an iPad. But, it does make a great compliment to your desktop PC. I have found it to be a great piece of technology and not just for consumption. In fact, if you think the iPad is only for consuming media, you’re mistaken. That would be just like saying the iPhone is only for making phone calls. Hope that helps!

The very fact that you are reading this proves you can (and should) read your Bible.

I hear all the time from people that they “just don’t like to read” specifically in regards to reading the Bible. I’m becoming increasingly impatient with that thought – mostly because most of us do a tremendous amount of reading every day – whether we realize it or not. You actually see on average 490,000 words per day. That’s crazy! Here’s what’s really intense – there are 593,493 words in the Old Testament and 181,253 in the New Testament giving 774,746 words in total. So, practically speaking – if you read every word you saw, in two days you could read the entire Bible. Now that is crazy! Not very practical, but still.

I get it though, you probably don’t read every word you see (I certainly don’t) but you do read more than you think in a day. Just imagine if you counted all the twitter, facebook, text messages, emails, books, and hand-written notes you read in a day. I can only imagine that it would be a lot! This brings up another facet, you enjoy reading… simply because you, me and everyone we know are constantly on our mobile devices reading (or you’re watching the most watched YouTube ever).

So, if you’re one to use the pitiful&lazy excuse that you don’t like to read… you do more of it than you’re aware of. So why not take time to dive into Scripture and listen to what the Lord wants to say to you? Besides, it’s more profitable for you than most the other 100 Trillion words on the Internet (thanks Al Gore).

Be a good steward and read the Scriptures today… like now.

Most Popular for October

No, I cannot believe it either: October is over. That being said, here are the most popular reads from the blog this month:

  1. Abby’s Craftiness – apparently, everyone is amazed at Abigail’s ability to make things from felt, string, and the two hands God gave her. I’ll say this – I’m not so much amazed as much as I am impressed with her. She’s going to be a great mom!
  2. Early Prayers – this was a post I did of a prayer I prayed (and have been praying) for our little girl. We still don’t have a name, for now we’ll just call her “Daddy’s girl.” ;-)
  3. Can you sum up your 40 minute talk in less than 2 minutes - everyone seemed to really like this post because well… it was about keeping things to the point.
  4. Boy or Girl? Take the Poll – a ton of you took the poll… 60% of you were right.
  5. No Phone Friday – this was a short post sharing that I was giving up the phone for this particular Friday… so if you called me on this day I didn’t answer and I didn’t notice.
At the time of this posting, 20,376 of you have visited the site. That’s a small town. Thanks for reading.

enjoy.
