Three reasons why I justified sleeping in this morning

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Saturday, February 27th, 2010

<p>Today I slept in until 8AM. This isn’t typical for me because I’m usually up at 6AM. But I justified the extra two hours for three reasons:

1. We’re having a baby.
2. We’re having a baby.
3. We’re having a baby.

There is a rumor that says we won’t be sleeping as much once the baby comes.

[our due date is March 13th, but the doctor told Abigail that it could be any day... I'll believe it when I see the baby crowning...]

I’m very happy (at this point) with where we’re headed for our ‘baby-moon’

Abigail told me brought to my attention that we needed some time together before we had our little girl. While I agreed, I didn’t understand the magnitude of getting away until our birthing classes began. During the class, we watched a video and it explained the importance of taking time to connect to your spouse before the first child comes because the baby will need more time than you think – and you’ll need time with your spouse (even if your pride says you won’t).

This being the case, I spoke with a friend who is having a child around the same time we are (actually, it’s in April… so a month after us) and he mentioned that they’re going to out-of-state for their little get-away. My pride was hurt. We really don’t have the time to go out-of-state since my speaking schedule is rather intense now; ministry is blowing and going; the weekends are packed with shower’s and photo-shoots; etc. Bottom line? We better do this soon or it won’t happen.

Thus, I did some research online and found this kindof weird website on reasons for baby-moon’s and I made the logical decision to schedule some time away before the baby came. I found us a place to go that will offer a nice retreat but with the quirks of great things to do around it… but I’m not going to tell you where we’re going until we go. This is somewhat of a secret  I’m keeping from Abigail – we’ll see if she can pull it out of me… but I also don’t want any of you to visit us! ;-)

enjoy.

5 Things I Learned at Birthing Classes

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Last night, Abigail and I went to our first of three birthing classes. We will take part in these classes over the next two Tuesdays. Did I mention that they’re three hours each?! Apparently though, by attending these classes, we’ll cut the birth time by on average 5 hours… so I think this will be well worth it. While in the class, I observed/learned 5 things that I think you’ll enjoy:

  1. There were more people in the class who were “partners” (not married) in the class than those who were married… by a large margin.
  2. The placenta comes out after the birthing.
  3. People eat the placenta… (it does look like steak, but no thanks).
  4. I should drink a coffee before I go to this class because it was A.) 3 hours long; B.) apple juice and graham crackers simply aren’t enough to keep me awake.
  5. My wife has a much more difficult task in this whole deal than I do.

What did you learn from these classes?

Most Popular for October

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

No, I cannot believe it either: October is over. That being said, here are the most popular reads from the blog this month:

  1. Abby’s Craftiness – apparently, everyone is amazed at Abigail’s ability to make things from felt, string, and the two hands God gave her. I’ll say this – I’m not so much amazed as much as I am impressed with her. She’s going to be a great mom!
  2. Early Prayers – this was a post I did of a prayer I prayed (and have been praying) for our little girl. We still don’t have a name, for now we’ll just call her “Daddy’s girl.” ;-)
  3. Can you sum up your 40 minute talk in less than 2 minutes - everyone seemed to really like this post because well… it was about keeping things to the point.
  4. Boy or Girl? Take the Poll – a ton of you took the poll… 60% of you were right.
  5. No Phone Friday – this was a short post sharing that I was giving up the phone for this particular Friday… so if you called me on this day I didn’t answer and I didn’t notice.
At the time of this posting, 20,376 of you have visited the site. That’s a small town. Thanks for reading.

enjoy.

Early Prayers

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Many of you know that we’re having a baby, a baby girl in fact. It’s quite exciting and I am filled with anticipation over the whole deal. But having and raising a child is extremely terrifying (at least to me it is). Maybe it isn’t so much of a terrifying thing to raise a child, rather its weighty. Raising a child is not something I am taking lightly nor do I want to take it lightly…

What this weight has birthed in me though are specific prayers for our little girl. Here is my prayer from this morning… it’s not long, but I thought I’d share it with you:

Father in heaven, I pray that I will share with our little girl how great You are and how great You have been towards us. How greatly loved we are by You; how You can be trusted in all things; how You will always fight for the hearts of Your people; and how she can fit into your bigger plan by trusting in You; trusting that You are good & faithful towards Your people; and because of who You are, we love You. In Jesus name, amen.

enjoy

Abby’s Craftiness

By michaelcriner · Comments (0)
Sunday, October 11th, 2009

One of the things that has always attracted me to Abigail was her ability to see something at the store or online and hear her say, “I can make that.”

Now, a lot of us say those things all the time, but most of us are too lazy to actually DO them… not my Abigail. She does it. All. The. Time.

Therefore, below is a picture of her latest creation: 1948 Vintage Booties. I love my Abigail.
