This past Sunday was our first College Hour for the 09-10 year. Let it be known that we (Abigail, our leadership team, our church, our adult leaders, MYSELF) were totally PUMPED & GEARED up for this new year. I’ll be honest, there has never been near this much excitement coming into a school year for our team. I’m not really sure why there was such much excitement… but I think the Spirit just has some pretty incredible things in store for us this upcoming year. Below, I want to share with you some of my impressions from our time together this past Sunday (2.23.09):

  • Don’t waste this semester.
  • Jesus is our agenda.
  • If the social agenda replaces Jesus/the gospel – it’s over for the church.
  • If my personal agenda replaces Jesus/the gospel – it’s over for the church.
  • If our ministry agenda replaces Jesus/ the gospel – it’s over for the church.
  • I see casualties of passionless devotion to Jesus everywhere… except here.
  • Passion when misplaced (not God-glorifying/Christ-exalting/Spirit-breathed) IS the wasted life.
  • There is something greater in this life than my life.
  • College students GET worship… do they (I) get obedience (we’ll talk more about this next week).
  • I love seeing our adults invest their lives into students.
  • Our volunteers (students/adults) rock my face off… we LITERALLY couldn’t do what we do w/o them.
  • I love the fact that I got to share the gospel with over 200 students this past Sunday – it’s the MOST WE’VE EVER HAD!!
  • But, I rejoice more that my name is written in heaven (Luke 10:20)…
  • “How can you avoid the wasted life?  KNOW HIM! I want you to get that, get it?”
  • Sunday may have been the loudest it’s ever been in our room…
  • I think we had more first time guests today than we had coming last year on average… really weird.
  • Leadership retreat is this coming weekend – so pumped to be with those that God has called out to be HIS servants this year!
  • To gain everything in the world and lose Christ is to live your entire life as a slow decent into hell.
  • And LAST – I love my wife.

enjoy.
