John 12:27: “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’ But for this purpose I have come to this hour.” (ESV)
Jesus here is headed to the cross… the most terrifyingly beautiful point in history. ever. Charles Spurgeon says this, “If Jesus looked out of himself for protection, how much more must we, his erring followers, do so!”
I mean, you and I are better than Jesus right?
You and I don’t need help… right?
You and I are self sufficient… right?
I think this is one of my biggest frustrations in life right now: my self-sufficiency… my soul is troubled. Terribly terribly troubled. By not praying further hits home my brazenness sinfulness to think that I can do all things apart from Christ.
My soul is troubled. And what shall I say? Protect me. Guard me. Surround me from the bent… And to you be the glory forevermore.
