Roughly once every year I have the opportunity to preach at the Family Worship Service at our Church. It’s quite humbling to be asked to do such a thing… but also can be quite frustrating. It’s like I think of great things to preach on at “church” all the time, but then when it’s time to actually preach at church I freeze.
figures.
So I’ve been going back and forth on a couple of messages that I think might be applicable for our church… The catch has been that we’re in the middle of a series on doctrines of the church – I’m not required to do a “doctrinal” talk, but I kindof feel obligated to. So I’ve been stuck. All that to say, I may do a sermon on the Church – it’s purpose, etc… probably from Romans 15:4-7.
I spoke with a former student of mine of whom I consider a friend who currently lives overseas – you can find him HERE. He mentioned that no matter what I talk about I should begin with this statement, and it made me smile:
“Hello, I would just really like to talk about the glory of God and how we suck. Please turn with me to…
Be praying for me as I prepare my sermon on the 13th.
IN OTHER NEWS
I finally bought my birthday present from Abigail. She bought me a watch – I waited long enough and it went on sale for roughly half off. It’s only taken me almost two full months to figure out that it was the “one.” It’s a Casio G-Shock – a type of watch I’ve wanted for some time. The features are too many to list but I do want to point out a couple of things [1] it’s got Atomic Timekeeping which basically means it receives time calibration radio signals that keep the displayed time accurate… anywhere in the world. [2] it’s Solar Powered so I’ll never have to replace the battery (a reason why I’m getting a new watch). [3] it does my laundry – not really, but I’m curious to how many of you actually are reading this and would point out that it’s false information.
Here’s a little picture of the new guy…
enjoy.
