We were in South Padre, TX for a little beach time this past week. I’ll be honest – I’m not a big fan of the beach.
It’s not that there’s sand everywhere.
It’s not that the ocean is made of salt + water = terrible taste in the ole’ mouth.
It’s not that after a day at the beach you have to shower all the sand off of you and even then you feel dirty.
It’s not that you get sunburn like a lobster.
It’s not that there are jellyfish, crabs, or people in the water.
No – it’s none of those things.
It’s Jaws.
I’m always overly worried that some shark is going to chop me into pieces while I’m trying to “catch a wave” on my boggieboard. SCARY.
So, I like the mountains. But it was still fun.
I read a book by Francis Chan on the beach entitled Crazy Love. I would recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to be rebuked in an encouraging way. Chan writes as he speaks – from his heart along with a deep urgency to see lives changed for the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
As I was reading this book and at times looking up and out onto the ocean, it was just crazy (hence the title) to think that a God who has made all these things – set it in His heart before the foundation of the world to love me. That’s crazy. So, while on the beach in my heart burst in to worship and praise and glory in His name. In thankfulness to what God had done – but more so for who He is.
Thanks Francis for the word. May we all be crazy in love.
